The tall water pump has a roll pin holding the impeller, and the small flat pump is actually a mercury pump for their small motor. Once on the bench, the water pump has 2 little bolts holding it down. If unavailable, you can have it welded together and it will be a %26quot pull and go%26quot. If any of it follows the drive shaft out the exhaust, then it's broken and you will need to pull the power head to replace it. It should stay in place and cause you no problems. SO- if you drop that lower and hear a rain of parts coming down the exhaust, you will need to pull the power head to put it back together. It clutched into an identical piece keyed to the crank shaft with a spring to help hold it in gear.
They made several- the worst was a clutch dog running on long splines on the top of the drive shaft. You might have a shifter, or at least a neutral. That lower drops right off with it's 2 nuts removed. This would be the 7.5 tecumseh or clinton? (Ted Williams?)
